Why Operational Learning?

Scarlet Ignition studies necessary facilities, processes and mentalities. We then develop targeted-tailored operational learning for community transformation. We use AGILE Operational Learning to simplify the job.

When a cruise liner’s engine failed. The ship’s owners tried one expert after another, but none of them could figure out the problem. Time was running out and the engine wouldn’t start. An old war engineer was brought in, he had been fixing engines his whole life. He carried a large bag of tools with him, and when he arrived, he slowly examined the engine. He inspected every inch. Two of the ship’s owners watched irritably as the old man took his time.

After looking things over, the old man reached into his bag and pulled out a small hammer. He gently tapped the engine and called for ignition. The engine fired up without a fuss. A week later, the owners received a bill from the old man for ten thousand dollars. “What?!” the owners exclaimed. “He hardly did anything!”

So, they wrote the old man a note saying, “Please send us an itemized bill.” The man sent a bill that read:

Tapping with a hammer…………………. $ 2.00
Knowing where to tap……………………. $ 9,998.00

The moral of the story:

Knowledge is worthless. If you don’t know where to apply it. Knowing where to focus, and how to focus, is the key to success. Without this focus, you’ll be stripping your engines, hiring experts, and tapping forever.

Scarlet Ignition believes that applying engineering principles to simplistic problems in life, can bring about major results. When looking at operations in schools, retail, SMME, and even our own personal lives. We ask, why the knowledge of engineering processes is not used. To simplify our daily operations, is to save time, save money, and improve our mental health by reducing stress and redundant monotony.

Operational Learning is a study of how work actually gets done. It simplifies the job, the training required to do the job, and the learning strategy to teach the mechanisms of the job. Operational learning is a specified focus, to develop functional employees who work with reduced responsibility. Operational learning is a process of continuous improvement that helps organizations and people become more successful. The purpose of operational learning is to create a more efficient working environment by studying what works, and what doesn’t work, and identifying areas for improvement.

This type of learning helps organizations gain insights into their operations to reduce their time to market for products and services. It also examines existing practices so as to focus on developing solutions that better utilize resources, leading to increased customer satisfaction and improved bottom-line performance. By focusing on operational learning, organizations can identify which processes are critical for success and develop strategies that can be implemented throughout the entire organization. In short, operational learning helps ensure that all operations are functioning optimally and takes the necessary steps necessary to prevent future issues from arising while continuing to drive efficiency gains across the board.

Conclusion

The ultimate goal is to create an organization where all personnel understand how they contribute to the overall efficiency and equity across departments. When all employees embrace operational learning on an ongoing basis, this creates an environment of continuous innovation and improvement within the organization.Operational learning enables organizations to stay flexible while adapting quickly to changing demands in order to continue driving maximum value at minimal cost over time.
